Delhi Metro provided an affordable and safe way of commuting for the citizens of Delhi. It was cheaper and faster than most over the ground modes of transport and was very beneficial environmentally as well. But like most sectors, the transportation industry also took a big hit due to the Corona virus pandemic. As per the guidelines of the nationwide lockdown, the metro was closed for commuters in March of 2020. It was an important step in discouraging the people from gathering and in effect controlling the spread of the virus. According to Delhi Metro Latest News, the govt is slated to reopen the metros from 7th September while adhering to the strict regulations laid down by Unlock 4.0.
Financially Viable Travel, Less Waiting At Bus Stops
All public and private transportations except emergency cases were ceased after the first lockdown. When the government started the unlocking procedure, strict guidelines were laid down for code on conduct on public transports. Social distancing was to be strictly maintained. Due to this public transports like buses, taxis, auto-rickshaws etc were running at 40-50% of their full capacity. This spelled trouble for the operators of these transports as well as the commuters who had to wait for hours for their chance to board the transport. The prices showed a rising trend as well since the operators were struggling to make ends meet.
But now when Delhi Metro reopen after lockdown, it will ease the pressure on other modes of transport. Before the lockdown, 27 lakh passengers used to travel by metro daily. In addition to that, lakhs of passengers used other modes of transport like autos, taxis and buses to travel to the Metro. This also means a good earning opportunity for these small operators and they have been patiently waiting for it.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation which has suffered losses of around 1300 crores to the corona virus pandemic will also be able to recover its losses.
Delhi Metro Latest Update: Only 38% Gates To Be Opened
According to the new guidelines of the Unlock 4.0, only 38 gates of the Delhi Metro will open in order to avoid congestion. DMRC already has all the safety features in place to avoid spreading the infection. Seeing Delhi Metro reopen after lockdown, Noida Metro will resume its services form 7th September on the Aqua Line.
