How important is the parent’s role in shaping the future of a student?
We often hear people thanking their mother-father, their wife-husband, and crediting them for their success. They often say because of support of so and so, I was able to accomplish this and that and such stuff. While backing one’s decision can be a great support, it’s not the only thing that can make a person successful. And when it comes to students’ success, even backing decisions shouldn’t be counted as support. So let’s discuss how important a parent’s role is in shaping the future of a student and what should be their roles and responsibilities.
Earlier it was mostly mothers who helped children with their homework, school projects, and studying in the home. Fathers are generally regarded as bread earners who have very little time to spare and help the child with their assignments. Fathers would do every bit to help their children with educational fees. They would support if the child wants to go abroad for higher studies. They might help find the best course and colleges, they would try to get an educational loan for their child, pay for their academic transcripts such as Pune university transcript or Mumbai University transcript, credential evaluations, visa, etc. So earlier students were able to get all kinds of support from their parents, teachers, and relatives. But these days the story is different.
Now urban lifestyle requires both the parents to work. After working an 8-hour shift, dodging traffic, completing household chores, and finishing their other pending works, the parents are left with very-very little time. And that very little time is used to review their child’s update. And because of this, the child’s future is left in the hands of schools and coaching centers. The only task left with parents now is to pay their child’s coaching fees and review their report cards. In some cases, it has been observed that the parents didn’t even know what their child’s career plan is. This needs to be changed. There are a few roles and responsibilities that every parent should pay attention to such as:
- Question their child and encourage them to make informed decisions always
- Should be always available for their children for any kind of doubts, question or help
- Shouldn’t impose their own beliefs and thinking and allow freedom to make their own decisions
- Check regularly about their plans and check their progress
- Regularly check if the child is facing any challenges in their studies or social life
- Try to complete household works together, read together, and work together.
- Reward children for their efforts and results.
For a child leaving abroad for foreign studies, a parent’s simple effort like applying for academic transcripts can be a great moral support, even though the child can fetch his Mumbai university transcript, DU transcript, etc. on his own with help of transcript service providers. What ultimately matters is how much time parents give to their children. Because today’s children are way much smarter. They can do anything, provided their loving ones are by their side.
