A glove box is a sealed container created to allow somebody to manipulate things that require a separate atmosphere. Gloves are put on the sides of the glove box so that the user can place his hands in gloves and perform tasks inside the box without breaching the containment. Besides this, some part or all of the boxes is being translucent so that the user can see what is being manipulated. There are two styles of glove-boxes
- The first allows the user to work with dangerous substances, such as radioactive substance or infectious disease agent
- The second enables the processing of chemicals, such as argon or nitrogen, which must be held in a very high purity inert atmosphere.
A glove box can also be used for storing objects in a vacuum chamber.

- Inert atmosphere work- The gas is pumped in a glove box by several treatment systems that remove solvents, water, and oxygen from the gas. The heated copper metal is typically used to remove oxygen. Oxygen is removed usually regenerated by moving hydrogen/nitrogen through a mixture when heated. An alternative to using a glove box for air-sensitive work is using a vacuum gas line to employ manifold methods. One drawback of working in a glove box system is that the plastic seals are attacked by organic solvents. As a result, the box will begin leaking, and then water and oxygen will enter the box. Another disadvantage of a glove box system is that the plastic gloves allow oxygen and water to spread.
- Hazardous materials work-Components used in the glove boxes system included acrylic viewing windows and Benelux insulation made up of wood fiber and neutron-proof material. Manipulation of the lead-lined gloves has been expensive. Some glove boxes for radiation work are under inert conditions, for instance, one box filled with nitrogen contains a box filled with argon.
Moving forward, Glove boxes are secured chambers with gloves or arm ports. Arm ports are arranged in such a way that the user can place his hands in the gloves and carry out tasks inside the box without breaking containment. The most common configurations for glove boxes are two-port and four-port.

- The vacuum glove box is a glove box used to handle objects in a vacuum chamber. Glove box works under vacuum to extract moisture and oxygen without expensive inert gas cleansing and is also suitable for handling air-sensitive materials.
