What To Know About A Heating And Cooling System Before Installing One?
A hot sweaty day of summer or a chilly winter night can be equally devastating without a heating and cooling system in your house. This gives you a comfortable summer nap or a cozy winter night. However, installing one in your house is an easy task compared to taking care of it. You may end up spending more money than needed if you do not have a proper idea of the system. Let’s take a look at how the entire system works.
Basic components of a heating and cooling system
There are three basic components of this system.
Source of hot or cool air
A furnace that releases the hot air and air conditioner which is the source of cooled air. You can turn on the furnace in winter and use the air conditioner during summer. It can keep your rooms at moderate temperature.
The furnace consumes the electricity as fuel and produces heat. Therefore, the heated air is released to the room through pipes and ducts or wires.
An air conditioner uses electricity to cool a gas in a coil. After that, the warm air comes in contact with the cool gas and turn into cooled air which is then released and distributed to the room by the fan coil.
Air distributor
Only the transfer of cool air into hot air is not enough. Proper distribution is necessary to make the entire room in moderate temperature. This works in three methods.
Forced air system
The forced-air system forces the hot or cool air out using the blower. It uses two sets of ducts to blow in and blow out depending upon what are you using, such as the furnace or air conditioning. But a downside of this method is, the blower is prone to malfunction. Especially, at the end of its life span.
Gravity system
This system is designed for the basement. It works on the hot and cool air principle that hot air rises while the cooled air sinks. Once activated, hot air rises to the height of the room, and cold air sinks. Based on this particular principle, the gravity system cannot work with the cooling method.
Radiant system
Old households used to have this system. It has the same problems as the gravity system has. Radiant systems cannot work with air conditioners either. It works by heating the floors, ceiling, or walls of a room. But on the downside, the pipes are prone to break easily that carries the hot water.
Thermostat
A thermostat is responsible for controlling the heating and cooling system. The thermostat is sensitive to heat. It is the main component that operates the entire system. It takes note of the difference between the room temperature and the temperature you set manually. And then it makes the furnace or air conditioner work towards the set temperature.
Modern thermostats are way more efficient than older ones. Modern ones are designed by protected by glass. This is why it is less prone to dysfunction.
So, the main particles to look for in heating and cooling systems are furnace, air conditioner, boiler, fan coil, duct, and evaporate coils, heat pump, and thermostat. With the name and the knowledge of the functioning of these parts, it will surely become easy to repair or maintain.
Now, in a nutshell, we gathered a brief idea about a heating and cooling system. All that you need now is an installation. But, before installing one in your house or office or car, taking quotations from different companies is a must. Choosing the right system may not solve all your problems but it will help you deal with them easily and smoothly.
