Why many parents choose CBSE over State Board?
The never ending debate on what’s better CBSE or state board is still on. The entire student community gets divided on this particular topic just like how it gets divided on science vs arts vs commerce. It is very essential for students to know what each board has to offer and which one of them is useful for them for their future. But before we classify them into their merits and demerits let’s first understand each of the board in brief.
State board
As the name suggests each state has its own board. The administrative authorities are over the educational ministry of the respective state. The structure, syllabus, paper pattern everything varies. The variation of these differs from one state to another. Due to these base level differences it is impossible to compare the results of any two different state boards. It also gets difficult during admission to any centralized institution. But, it comes as an advantage if a student wants to pursue higher studies of that one particular state. This is because the students are well aware with the educational system of that state.
CBSE board
CBSE is central board for secondary education. This is the national board of India. The material and teaching methods were in relation to the national interests of the country. JEE and other nationalized competitive exams are conducted by CBSE. In comparison to state board, CBSE is tougher but is student friendly as well. CBSE is beneficial to students who wish to purse high education in a nationalized institute than state institute.
Since we have explained each of the board clearly now let’s get into what’s better.
The merits of CBSE in comparison to state board are
- CBSE is Equivalent, State isn’t
As discussed above CBSE being the national board of the country is studied all around the country whereas state boards differ from one to state to another. Therefore the transfers or changing of schools is easier for CBSE students. Since the pattern, syllabus everything is different it becomes impossible for the school transfers in case of the latter one.
- Allows Flexibility
CBSE is hands down considered to be flexible than any other board as it allows customization for picking up a few additional subjects from classes 8 to 12. It could be adding a language or mathematics with arts or humanities. All though the limits of customization may differ from one school to another.
- Student- friendly
As described above about CBSE, it is considered to be more student friendly. As the books and the syllabus is quite interactive. The study material of CBSE helps students to develop analytical abilities and skills for reasoning. New polices are being revised to avoid rote learning. Lately one could experience revised leaning due to Covid-19 pandemic in which 30% of the syllabus is been cut down. CBSE does not put any extra pressure on students.
- Aids IIT-JEE or AIIMS preparations
Studying in CBSE schools adds an advantage because competitive exams like JEE or AIIMS are conducted by the centralized education institutions. There are many students who aspire to become doctors and engineers and therefore studying in CBSE gives them an advantage for these examinations.
CBSE has clear advantages over the State board. All India universities follow the CBSE pattern therefore it make it easy for CBSE students to understand the system as compared to the state board. Parents have choices as to which board should they actually let their child study. But it is highly important to analyse what works better for the child keeping in mind his/her aspiration and career perspective.
